Touring Garachico, Tenerife
Today’s journey took us to Garachico, a coastal gem that feels frozen in time.
Though it was founded in 1496 and grew rich as Tenerife’s main gateway for wine and sugar, its golden age ended abruptly in 1706. The eruption of the Trevejo volcano choked the harbour with lava, forever altering the town's destiny. Now, Garachico stands as a beautifully conserved historic site. From the rugged San Miguel Castle to the crystal-clear natural pools carved by the volcano, the history here is tangible.
We loved wandering through its sun-drenched gardens and the historic central plaza, eventually settling in to enjoy some authentic local flavours.
